MUMBAI: Two men robbed a wholesale books at Chandivali of Rs 35.65 lakh in cash wearing helmets so as not to be caught on CCTVs installed there. One of the two watchmen employed at the bookstore was found passed out. The Saki Naka police have registered a case of robbery and are looking for the accused.
The incident took place between 2.30am and 4.45am on Saturday at Bookers Wholesale Pvt Ltd.
The shop is located on Farm Road in Chandivali Industrial Estate. The two watchmen, Manoj Vishwakarma and Vijay Pawar, who are witnesses to the case, were on duty overnight. They told the police that the unidentified robbers threatened them at knifepoint. "The robbers forced Vishwakarma to smell a kerchief soaked in chloroform. As he passed out, they began to bind Pawar. The robbers pulled out a key from Vishwakarma's pocket and opened the shop with it. They then made off with all the earnings of the shop," said an official from Saki Naka police.
"We do not have any leads in the case so far. The robbers may have done a recce as they seemed aware that the shop had CCTVs installed. They were careful to not leave a clue behind by wearing helmets to hide their face. We will now check if any habitual criminals on our record have been involved in the robbery," the official said.
