Old city to get 2nd prepaid auto booth
GURGAON: The traffic police department plans to open the city's fourth pre-paid auto booth on Old Delhi Road. The exact location has not yet been indentified.
The department was previously planning to open a booth at Sikanderpur Metro station, making it the new city's third, but dropped the idea. "No date specific date has been fixed to inaugurate the booth, but it's the next in line," said Vinod Kaushik, DCP (traffic).
Booths have previously been set up at Huda City Centre Metro station, MG Road Metro station and the city railway station. Though the booths at the Metro stations have garnered a good response, the one at the railway station has not been particularly popular. While other booths get close to 1,000 bookings a day, the one at the railway station gets a meager 300, the police department claimed. "People who travel by trains for local commutes normally don't comprise the pre paid auto clientele as it is too expensive for them," said Kaushik.
The DCP said the response at the upcoming booth will be better as the department will choose the venue with due caution. "Last time we set up the booth at the wrong place. But even in the old city, we have several people who are ready to use this service, whom we hope to tap," said Kaushik.
