BANGALORE - 15.08.2014 : Large number of visitors thronging to the see the Flower Show at illuminated Glass House in Lalbagh Botanical Garden, during the Indian Independence Day Horticultural Flower Show - 2014, in Bangalore on August 15, 2014.

A massive turnout at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens that is hosting the 200th flower show choked the park on Friday with many even leaving without getting a glimpse of the floral arrangements and the replica of Mysore palace.

Taking advantage of the holiday on account of Independence Day, Bangaloreans thronged the gardens.

The queues at each gate spilled over to the roads. Many had to wait for nearly half-an-hour at least to enter Lalbagh.

As many as 1.2 lakh visitors, including 10,000 children, visited the show on Friday. The gate collection was about Rs. 57 lakh.

Among the disappointed visitors was Monali H., who had come with her friends. “There was a huge rush that we could not even go inside the Glass House,” she said.

The crowd comprised mainly of families. School and college students, too, came in large numbers as they had been let off earlier than usual.

Palace is a draw

Shivashankari of Parikrama College said that she has visited many shows but thought this year’s was one of the better ones. “I loved the recreated Mysore palace and there were some beautiful flowers on display this time,” she said.

Vendors too cashed in on the opportunity.

However, the vehicles parked on the side of the roads led to slow moving traffic throughout the day, especially on Double Road.

More than 1,000 police personnel and Home Guards tried to manage the crowd. Megaphones were used to regulate the crowd.
