BHOPAL: BJP MLA Rustam Singh allegedly assaulted a toll booth employee on Agra-Gwalior national highway in Morena district on Wednesday night after the BJP leader was asked to pay toll charge. Rustam Singh, IPS officer-turned-politician, was caught on CCTV, slapping booth attendant without any apparent provocation. His son and supporters allegedly thrashed booth employees and lodged a police complaint accusing them of overcharging.
Footage shows his son, Rakesh Singh, trying to snatch a security guard's gun at the toll plaza. The former minister, his son and two others were travelling in an SUV that reached the toll plaza at 9.04 pm.
Day after the incident, Rustam Singh's associate Ram Khiladi Singh, filed a complaint against the toll plaza manager and five others, accusing them of overcharging. When police arrested toll attendants, their colleagues lodged a counter-complaint and submitted footage to substantiate their claims.
The former minister was apparently angry with toll booth attendants for engaging in wordy duel with his wife over the toll, a couple of days ago. Toll employee Kishan Singh told police she had lost her temper when asked to pay toll. Police said they are investigating complaints.
