Veteran Marathi film and theatre actress Smita Talwalkar passed away on August 6 at Mumbai’s Jaslok hospital. She was 58. The actress who was suffering from ovarian cancer, had been in the hospital for the last few months. In an advanced-stage cancer, she complained of breathlessness and died at around 2.30 am.
Having started her career as a newsreader on television, which spanned for 17 years, before entering acting, Smita had acted in films like Tu Saubhagyavati Ho and Gadbad Ghotala. She turned producer with Kalat Nakalat under her banner Asmita Chitra in 1989. The film won four National Film Awards. Tu Tithe Mee won four Screen awards while Choukat Raja was selected in Indian Panorama for the year 1992 and has won 13 state awards. Her other notable films are Saatchya Aat Gharat and Anandache Jhaad.
The actress also ventured into direction in 1993 with the comedy-drama Sawat Mazhi Ladki. Apart from producing six films, Talwalkar produced 25 television serials, including Peshwai, Avantika and Unch Maaza Zoka. Smita even directed four episodes of Mano Ya Na Mano for Balaji Telefilms.

 

Music launch of Pyarwali Love Story

The music launch of director Sanjay Jadhav’s Pyarwali Love Story was held at The Club in Andheri recently. Seen on the occasion was the entire cast and unit. Set to release on October 24, the film has music by Pankaj Padghan.
