Suriya brings Jyothika back!
To be produced by her hubby and actor Suriya, the comeback film is a remake of acclaimed Malayalam film
If Suriya is gearing up for the biggest release of his career in Anjaan slated for release today, his wife and actress Jyothika is readying herself for a comeback to the silver screen after a sabbatical of seven years. Interestingly, the film will be a remake of the Malayalam film How Old Are You, through which actress Manju Warrier made a sensational comeback after 14 years. A female-centric film, How Old Are You is one of the biggest hits in Malayalam this year.
The Tamil version will be directed by Rosshan Andrrews, who also helmed the Malayalam original. Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Rosshan said, “Yes, the remake will happen with Jyothika in the lead after my film with Prithviraj. It was Suriya who was instrumental in making the deal happen. Recently, Suriya saw the Malayalam version and loved it. I rushed to Chennai and everything was finalised in a week. So impressed was Suriya that he has agreed to produce the film and bought the remake rights of the film in Hindi as well.”
Will the film be tweaked to suit Tamil nativity? “No,” says Rosshan. “We don’t see any need to alter the plot or the script. I believe it will better suit the Tamil audience. In fact, Bobby and Sanjay, who wrote the original, will be writing for the Tamil version as well.“
Sources say Suriya’s 2D Entertainment has bought the remake rights for Hindi and Kannada as well. So who could be the heroine in Hindi? “It’s too early to talk about the possible heroines. Kajol, Rani Mukherjee or Vidya Balan will be the ideal choices,” says Rosshan. It’s not clear yet who will reprise the role of Kunchakko Boban who played the male lead in Malayalam.
