10,101 seedlings planted for Chure Restoration

 For the restoration and rehabilitation of the critical forest areas of Chure, 10,100 seedlings have been planted amid a ceremony in Tileshwor Nath Community Forest, Chandranigahapur-3, Rautahat, one of the working areas of the Sustainable Land Management in Churia Range project on 11 August 2014.

Honorable Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation, Mahesh Acharya officially inaugurated the ceremony by planting saplings of Khair-Sissoo (Acacia & Dalbergia Species) in the riverine area of the forest.

The plantation that was conducted in 6.26 Ha within the community forest saw a participation Officiating Secretary from the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation Dr. Annapurna Nand Das, Chairperson, President Chure Terai Madesh Conservation Committee Mr. Rameshwor Khanal, Director General, Department of Forest Mr. Bishwo Nath Oli, District Forest Officers of Bara and Rautahat, Chief District Officer from Rautahat and senior officials from WWF Nepal. Likewise, over 100 participants including user groups, media personnel’s and district government officials also actively participated during the plantation program.

Speaking at the program, Honorable Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation, Mahesh Acharya highlighted the significance of critical and fragile eco system of Chure and requested everyone to work towards its conservation.

The plantation ceremony was technically and financially supported by the Global Environment Facility project of WWF Nepal and implemented by District Forest Office, Rautahat.
