Pakistan men, women win 10th round

LAHORE – Pakistan men and women teams defeated Libya and Palau respectively to win the 10th round of the World Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway on Wednesday. Talking to this scribe, Chess Federation of Pakistan secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza said: “Pakistan men bounced back after three straight defeats when they beat Libya by 2.5-1.5 in the 10th round. Veteran international master Shahzad Mirza’s beat C Ibrahim after 55 moves. International Master Mahmood Lodhi played a draw against Libyan FIDE while Master M Younus beat Sabri Hussein. Newcomer Syed Ahmed Ali suffered his second defeat while Younus Khan won his game against Sabri Hussien. Pakistan women team also beat Palau in the 10th round. Pakistan jumped to 93rd after their win against Libya.”–Staff Reporter
