What you need to know:

Peji Farooqi is a mechanic who owns a workshop called BHP Motors located in Kibuli. Among the many old cars he has, is a Mercedes Benz 220 made in 1942. He displayed it at a recent car show.

How have you been able to maintain your car?
Every time I need spare parts, I get them from a shop called E-Auto in Nairobi, Kenya. Its spare parts are not that hard to get. I get some of them from other countries and places including Europe and South Africa. I employ someone who cleans all my old cars every day.

Where did you buy it?
I bought it from Naivasha, Kenya, at a price I don’t remember.
When do you drive it?
I drive it mostly on weekends. It is the most driven car among the cars I have because it is fully restored to a good road worthy condition.

Do you ever share it with friends or relatives?
No,I don’t share it with friends.

What is its engine size?
It is a three-litre and six cylinder engine. It uses a litre to cover four kilometres.

Is it automatic or manual?
It is manual.
How long have you had it?
Three years now because I had to take some time to restore it.

Do you ever use it for commercial activities?
Yes I do. I hire it out to musicians for videos.

What unique features does it have compared to the modern Mercedes Benzes?
Its doors open in opposite directions and it has twin carburetors. I think it is the oldest moving Mercedes Benz in Uganda.
