Thiruvananthapuram: Kendriya Vidyalayas, as part of their efforts to promote Sanskrit, organised a Sanskrit week across schools in the state. The week concluded on Wednesday.
The inauguration of Sanskrit Week celebration, organised by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Ernakulam Region was held at Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom here on August7. Kerala University Hindi Department Head and Associate Professor C. A. Shyla inaugurated the function.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in a circular, had directed all schools under it to celebrate Sanskrit Week between August 7 and 13. The circular had said that the objective was to provide an opportunity to schools, teachers and students to share their knowledge of Sanskrit and learn it from each other. This was for the first time that the Sanskrit week was being organised by the CBSE.
Mr S. Selvaraj, Deputy Commissioner, KVS, Ernakulam Region, presided over the function. Mr Mahesh Dharmadhikari, Regional Officer, CBSE, Thiruvananthapuram and Dr. N. Maheswaran Nair, Retired Professor in Sankrit,V. Meenakshi, Assistant Commissioner, KVS RO, Ernakulam, Mr S. Ajayakumar, Principal, KV Pattom, Mr K. B. K. Unnithan, Ms Valsala Nair and Mr Jose Mathew, Principals of KVs at Pangode, SAP and Akkulam respectively were also present.
Cultural programmes in Sankrit were conducted after the inaugural ceremony. Students from different KVs in the Thriuvananthapuram cluster and Navodaya Vidyalayas presented geeta chanting, shloka chanting, group song and skit.
