The number of State medical colleges will increase to 20, with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announcing a medical college for Karur as there is no private or government college in the district.

Trainee doctors would get Rs. 13,000 instead of Rs. 8,500, and the stipend for PG doctors would be increased from Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 25,000 in the first year, from Rs. 19,000 to Rs. 26,000 in the second year and from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 27,000 in the third year.
