HOSHIARPUR: Family of an NRI, who committed suicide on August 4 at Muscat (Oman), blocked the Tanda-Hoshiarpur road on Wednesday seeking action against his in-laws who were blamed by the victim for his death. The victim, Paramjit Singh, who hailed from Bhagowal village of Hoshiarpur district, had prepared a video before hanging himself in which he had blamed his wife and in-laws for driving him to commit suicide, and sent the clip to his friends.
The video clip later was sent to Paramjit's family on Tuesday evening following which they demanded action against his in-laws. Paramjit, 35, stated in the video that his in-laws had taken Rs 3.5 lakh from him and threatened to kill him when he demanded the money back. His family demanded from the police that Paramjit's in-laws be booked in Hoshiarpur while blocking the road for around three hours. The blockade was lifted after Hoshiarpur deputy superintendent of police (DSP) assured them of action after exploring legal options.
However, Bullowal station house officer (SHO) Jaskirat Singh said as the incident happened in Muscat and the autopsy was also done there, police here could take action only if authorities abroad sent the report to India.
