Once a picture of neglect, the locality near the Golconda Fort, now sports a new look. Thanks to the State government’s decision to hold the Independence Day celebrations at the historic fort. Overflowing garbage bins, potholed roads and sparsely illuminated streets, are things of the past here.
The roads received a fresh layer of bitumen, and the pavements and medians got a coat of paint after many years. While parks and rotaries flourish with new plants, the otherwise gloomy streets are now lit up. Garbage lifting, fogging operations and road repair works are in full swing.
In the run up for I-Day celebrations, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to spruce up the area much to the delight of the locals.
“It has come as a boon for us. Barring a few annual inspections, the officials never visited the area, now the entire official machinery is here and every request is being adhered to. I hope it continues,” muses Md. Afzal, a social activist.
“We are thankful to the Chief Minister for the historic decision. The area will get a new identity in the long run,” hopes Syed Ismail, a hotel owner at Bada Bazaar.
Moreover, the government managed institutions such as the Golconda Area Hospital, Government BJR Junior College, Golconda, and other local offices were also cleaned up in view of the high profile function. The Health Department officials rushed 50 mattresses to the Golconda Hospital in anticipation of a surprise inspection, the college staff had cleaned up wild vegetation and levelled the ground.
Meanwhile, the people also want the Chief Minister to address issues such as shortage of staff, drinking water and other facilities at the Golconda Area Hospital. Besides, the construction of first floor of the Golconda Junior College and setting up of a degree college for girls in the area.
