Kaksparsh plot is relevant in Tamil
We had earlier reported that Arvind Swami is acting in a Tamil-Hindi bilingual film, a remake of the critically acclaimed Marathi film, Kaksparsh, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. The director, who also directed the original, says that he decided to remake the film in Tamil (tentatively titled Mouna Ragam) because both meaningful cinema and commercial films work here.
This is a love story involving a Tamil Brahmin family and is set in the pre-Independence period. When I was making Kaksparsh, I felt that the rituals featured in the film are common in Tamil Nadu as well. So, I thought I should definitely make this film in Tamil also, as the plot is relevant to audiences here, he explains.
The Hindi version, also, will be the story of a Tamil family, he adds. Though the film will be in Hindi, the protagonist will be a Tamilian.
Talking about why he cast Arvind Swami, he says, Sachin Khedekar had done the lead role in the Marathi version. I was looking for some actor of his calibre and thats how I chose Arvind Swami. I heard that he has not done any film in the past 12 years. But when I met him, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well he had maintained his physique. He has shed extra kilos for the role.
The films music is by Ilaiyaraaja, and Manjrekar says he requested the maestro not to give any commercial songs. He has given soulful music that suits the situations in the film, explains Manjrekar.
