Pulsar 150 vs Discover 150: Bound to Be Some Overlap, Says Rajiv Bajaj

Does the Pulsar have competition from its own stable?

Bajaj Auto on Monday launched two new variants of its Discover motorcycle in the 150 cc (cubic centimetre) segment, the 150F and the 150S. These are the first motorcycles to be launched in the 150 cc segment by Bajaj Auto after the Pulsar 150.

So will the Discover 150 affect the Pulsar 150's business? Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj says "yes and no".

The Pulsar 150 is the leader in the Pulsar segment and constitutes over 60 per cent of the segment's sales.
"There will be some overlap undoubtedly but I don't think it will be anything significant," Mr Bajaj told NDTV.

While the Pulsar is an 'aspirational' product, the Discover is more commuter-focussed, he said.
"If you put a Discover 150 next to a Pulsar 150, completely different personalities. Very commuter-ish, flat seat, upright sitting position, relatively lean that's the Discover. Something that's relatively voluptuous, something that's more crouched, something that looks meaner, heavier, faster, that's Pulsar," Mr Bajaj said.

While the Discover 150 is more about mileage and less about performance, with the Pulsar it's exactly the opposite, he added.

The pricing of the Pulsar 150 and the Discover 150 are also significantly different. The Pulsar 150 is priced at Rs.67181 (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the 150F is priced at Rs 58,739 (ex-showroom, Pune), the Discover 150S costs Rs 51,720 for the drum (brake) and 54,725 for disc (brake) variants.
