K Series Maruti engines reach a landmark 25 lakh units

Leading Indian passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) crossed the 25 lakh production milestone for its K-series petrol engines on Wednesday. The K-Series engines are part of popular vehicles Alto K10, Swift, Celerio, Wagon R and Ritz. These engines also power Maruti alternate fuel (CNG and LPG)versions of Alto, DZire and Ertiga.

MSIL Executive Director of Engineering CV Raman said in a statement that engine refinement is always part and parcel of the company's plans, keeping in mind refinement and high mileage. Further, he said that the company's new models will incorporate technologies that constantly enhance these attributes, as well as low emissions and Noise Vibration Harshness. "The K-series is one of the most refined gasoline engine technologies available in India. It is able to combine best-in-class fuel efficiency with superior performance," he was quoted to be telling reporters.

For the first time, K-series engines were introduced in the year 2008 in India. These engines were installed in the A-Star series of hatchbacks. Since then, engine refinement levels of all cars by MSIL, especially the petrol ones, have gone up by leaps and bounds.

During the current fiscal till July, the company has witnessed a growth of 14.7 per cent in its total sales at 4,01,274 units, compared with 3,49,733 units in same period last year. While domestic sales grew 12.6 per cent to 3,60,736 units, exports went up by a significant 38.6 per cent to 40,538 units.
