Polavaram: House panel may meet PM
BHUBANESWAR: A house committee is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon over controversial Polavaram dam project being executed by neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
The committee, which held its first meeting under the chairmanship of speaker Niranjan Pujari here on Tuesday, decided to submit a memorandum to Modi. The meet discussed measures for countering imminent damages to the state by the project.
"We will seek an audience with PM and urge him to look at interests of the state and its people," Malkangiri MLA Manas Madkami told the media. "Since the project would submerge several pockets of Malkangiri district, we will continue our protest against the project," Madkami said.
Congress MLA and committee member Tara Prasad Bahinipati said water resources secretary has been asked to provide detailed information about the project and its likely repercussions on Odisha. "We want to be thoroughly updated about the project and its impact. After that we will meet the PM," Bahinipati said.
