Four persons including a quack and a woman were arrested by personnel of Sorada police station in Ganjam district for their involvement in an alleged illegal forced abortion.
According to police sources, a doctor who was also involved in this abortion has absconded. Although the incident had happened around eight months back, it came to fore when the victim complained about it to the police two days back. A person named Simanchal Naik of Bada Harijan Street of Sorada had developed physical relations with his wife’s sister, although he had two children from his marriage. His wife’s sister had become pregnant. As per a decision in a meeting of his community leaders, Simanchal had taken the pregnant girl to his home as his second wife.
It is alleged that later Smanchal and his family members had taken help of a local quack S.Prakash Chandra Patra to abort the pregnancy. A local doctor had done the abortion.
According to the victim, after the abortion she had to face physical and mental torture at the hands of Simanchal and his family members and was later driven out of their house. So, she complained at the Sorada police station on August 10. Following her complaint, police arrested Simanchal, his two family members including a woman and the quack.
