Police record statement of teacher who ‘caned’ 8-year-old

The incident took place on June 30 at the school which is a centre for differently-abled children.

The Matunga police Monday recorded the statement of Reema Kargutkar, 25, the teacher booked by police last week after she was allegedly seen in a video, brutally caning an eight-year-old boy at the Little Angel’s school in Matunga.

The incident took place on June 30 at the school which is a centre for differently-abled children.

“On June 30, when the incident took place, Kargutkar claimed that the boy was pestering and pulling the uniforms of other students. She claimed that while she tried to control the child, he pulled her clothes, and for this she beat him with a cane on his foot,” said an officer from the Matunga police.

The boy’s father claimed that Kargutkar was trying to save herself. “It is not true that our child misbehaved,” he said.

“We have already booked the teacher under IPC sections 323 and section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act,” said Sarita Bhosale, assistant police inspector.

Festive offer

On Friday, a copy of the FIR was submitted by the Matunga police to the Maharashtra State Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (MSCPCR).
