Teenager raped, newly-wed set ablaze for resisting bid

Kanpur: A tout raped a teenaged girl after luring her by promise of preparing a caste certificate in Unnao on Monday. The incident came to light when the girl lodged a complaint with Achalganj police station on Tuesday.
According to inspector Dharmendra Singh Raghuvanshi, the girl had gone to Sadar tehsil to procure her caste certificate for admission in BA classes. She claimed that one Mahendra Kumar of Singrosi village had assured to help her to get the same.
Sources said the incident took place after the girl spoke to Mahendra on phone on Monday and later went to meet him at Sadar tehsil. “When she reached Sadar tehsil, the accused asked her to accompany him to his house as he had forgotten to bring her caste certificate. At the house, he offered her eatables heavily laced with sedatives. He later took her to a desolate spot close to his house and raped her. The girl was under the effect of drugs and didn't realize she was being assaulted. She started coming back to her senses as the effect wore off by late Monday evening,” said a police official.
She returned home and narrated her ordeal to her parents and they informed the police. An FIR under sections of drugging (328 IPC) and rape (376) was registered with Achalganj police station. Sources said the cops arrested siblings of the accused on Tuesday and tried to locate his whereabouts by putting his mobile on surveillance.
Elsewhere, a newly-married girl was doused in kerosene and set ablaze by a group of men in Unnao on Sunday night for resisting molestation bid.
The incident took place in Barsinghi Kheda under the Makhi police station on Sunday night when the victim had come to visit her brothers on the occasion of Rakshabandhan festival. No arrests were reported till late on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the incident took place while the girl was alone in the house. “Arvind and Ram Asrey of the same village barged into the house and tried to molest her. When she offered resistance, they set her ablaze after dousing her in a can of kerosene. The girl suffered serious burns,” said a police official.
In charge of the Makhi police station - said that an FIR was lodged in connection with the incident but no arrests were made.
