To ensure that these sportsmen and women can enjoy this exciting trip to the second Youth Olympic Games from the word go right up to the very last minute, the team is flying to Nanjing with Lufthansa, the official airline of the German Olympic Sports Confederation. Today at 6.25 p.m., flight LH 780 will be taking off from Frankfurt non-stop to metropolis in eastern China. In addition to the athletes, there are also 46 trainers, coaches and sports officials on board the Airbus A380-600.

As well as the German delegation, many other nations are also flying with Lufthansa to the Youth Olympic Games in China. On board are athletes from Latvia, San Marino, Andorra and Monaco. In the last few days, teams from Belgium, Ireland, Poland, Greece, Portugal, Norway, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Mexico and Canada have also already flown with Lufthansa to China.

'We are delighted to be able to accompany our athletes on this special trip and are looking forward to exciting competitions and plenty of successes for Germany', says Jens Bischof, Member of the German Airlines Board, Sales, Product & Marketing. 'The Youth Olympic Games are the first Olympic experience for our young athletes. They are eagerly anticipating everything that is waiting for them in Nanjing. Meanwhile, on the journey they can relax and let themselves be looked after by Lufthansa before they put their sporting talents to the test as the German Youth Olympic team, inspired by the motto "We're for Germany"', says Bernhard Schwank, chef de mission, who is already in Nanjing. He will welcome the athletes at the terminal on 13 August.

From 16 to 28 August 2014, over 3,600 young sportsmen and women aged from 15 to 18 from all 205 national Olympic committees will be competing in Nanjing at the second Youth Olympic Summer Games. 28 sports will feature at the games, some of which are also part of the programme of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
