A woman in Bangalore has hit back at a pervert that tried to molest her in public by chasing him up the street, bringing him to the ground and kicking him in the head.

The dramatic dose of pay-back, which was captured on camera, bucks the trend of capitulation and indifference, associated with incidences of sexual abuse against women in India.

Veena Ashiya Chindlur was out jogging in the city when the man began harassing her. He soon discovered he had picked on the wrong woman, however.

After hounding him up the street, the attacker got down on his hands and knees and received a kick to the head from a furious Chindlur, in front of a pal who filmed the incident.

She also reported the incident to the police, who charged KR Suryaprakash, 30, with making lewd gestures and outraging the modesty of a woman.

But Chindlur filmed resistance and combat did not go down well with everyone. Some viewers thought it was staged.

She accused doubters of being "unable to digest the fact that women can also retaliate and called the incident orchestrated".

"The fact that women can react and hit back is just not acceptable in our society," she said.
