Attempted rape in Labuan foiled

Labuan: An attempted rape was foiled and a car plunged into an estuary at Jalan Patau Patau where the driver escaped unhurt ins separate incidents here on Saturday.The 15-year-old girl was soundly asleep in her room at Kampong Pantai when awakened by a man on top of her. When she opened her eyes, she was startled to see a naked stranger on her bed.According to OCPD Supt Adzhar Othman, the screams of the victim brought family members rushing to the room and they overpowered the intruder. They handed the suspect to the police. It would be investigated under section 376 Penal Code for attempted rape, which carried a maximum 30 years' jail and whipping. The victim, who is a student, lodged the report the same night at 1.30am.

Meanwhile, a man lost control of his wheel, plunging his car into the estuary, a few kilometres from the Labuan Shipyard Engineering plant.He was driving towards town when his car skidded and knocked off the railing at about 4.30pm, Sunday.
