Congress leader Selja's maid plotted to kill husband, say police

Delhi police have arrested a cook and detained the maid employed at Congress leader and former Union minister Kumari Selja's official residence in New Delhi on Monday.

Police said the maid found her husband's body around 8 on Monday morning near the servant's quarters of the former minister's house in Central Delhi's Sunehri Bagh area.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as 42-year-old Sanjay, had an argument with two cooks employed by the Congress leader late on Sunday night. But during the probe, the police found out that the maid was having an affair with Anil, the main accused in police custody now.

Police said Manju had plotted to kill her husband with Anil's help. A case has been registered at Tughlak Road Police Station.

Sanjay, a Sena Bhawan employee, was found in a pool of blood with injury marks on his head. Police said Anil came with an intention to kill Sanjay on Sunday night. The two men had an argument and Sanjay fell from the roof of the house and died. The police said they are yet to find out whether Sanjay fell or was pushed to his death.

A source said former social justice and empowerment minister Kumari Selja was in the house when the body was spotted by Manju, who then informed the security guard. Police have arrested Anil and his aide, also a cook, who live in another room in the servant's quarters. Manju and other relatives of the deceased have been questioned.

A police officer said the maid had decided to quit the job and leave the place due to frequent dispute and fights between her husband Sanjay and Anil. Investigating officials learnt during the probe that Anil and Sanjay recently had had a fight over vacating the quarters which sparked a fight. Anil had bruises on his face when the police detained him.

Sanjay's sister-in-law Rakhi had said he was having a dispute with Selja's cook Anil over vacating the servant quarters in which him and his wife were living.
