JU to adopt UGC guidelines on autonomous status to colleges

JAMMU, Aug 11:The Jammu University Syndicate, which met today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar, approved the statutes of M Tech in Computer Sciences and decided to adopt UGC guidelines regarding granting autonomous status to the Colleges and Institutions
In order to give boost to the international collaboration, University Syndicate also granted recognition to FERMILAB, USA as a Centre for Research. This step will go a long way in fostering academic collaborations and exchange of students and faculty members for undertaking research in frontier areas of Physics.
The University Syndicate also confirmed the actions taken by the Vice Chancellor regarding introduction of new subjects and programs in various colleges of the Jammu province.
This was 104th meeting of the Syndicate in which 34 agenda items were presented by Prof M K Dhar, Registrar JU.
B B Vyas, Principal Secretary Finance Department and Financial Advisor JU and Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, Secretary Higher Education also attended the meeting.
JU VC Prof Ishar informed the Syndicate that the University was holding its 14th Convocation on September 1, 2014 wherein President of India Pranab Mukheerjee, will be the chief guest.
Prof Ishar also informed the Syndicate that the University has taken several new initiatives for the benefit of students. He said that the University has successfully implemented the semester system at the Under Graduate level and admissions in various colleges have been made on this basis. The University has introduced Choice-based credit system at the Post-Graduate level in the Main Campus.
Besides this, he informed, the University has also completed admission process to various Post Graduate programs offered by main and off-site campuses. He also informed that many new research projects have also been initiated in the University.
The Syndicate meeting was attended by Prof R D Sharma, Chairman, J&K Board of Professional Examinations, Prof Desh Bandhu, Dean Faculty of Business Studies, Prof Jigar Mohammed, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Geeta Sumbli, Head Department of Botany, Prof Syeda Rukaya, Dean, Faculty of Oriental Learning, University of Kashmir, Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal, Govt College of Engineering & Technology, Prof Kiran Bakshi, Principal Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Prof Mohd. Ashraf, Principal Govt. Degree College, Baramulla and Jaikumar Sharma, Special Secretary to VC.
