The Bekasi municipal administration swore in on Monday 50 councilors for the 2014-2019 period in the Bekasi City Council.
The 50 councilors consist of 21 old faces and 29 newcomers, who earlier won their seats via the legislative election on April 9.
'The councilors have sworn do their jobs to the best of their abilities and in accordance with their religious beliefs,' said Bekasi District Court head Multiningdyah Ely Mariani, who represented West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan to inaugurate the 50 councilors.
During the inauguration, a group of students took the chance to protest. 'The Bekasi councilors have never fulfilled their promises. Their work has never been clear,' protest coordinator Yuki Alindra said.
'Remember your promises; remember the oath you have taken in front of hundreds of Bekasi residents,' he said.
Previously on Aug. 5, neighboring Bekasi regency swore in 50 councilors who will sit on the Bekasi Legislative Council.
