loods wreaked havoc in 16 villages in two districts in Banggai regency, Central Sulawesi, on Sunday, forcing 15,000 people to evacuate to safer ground.
'They are now staying in emergency tents set up by the Banggai authorities,' Bartholomeus Tandigala, the head of the Central Sulawesi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), stated on Monday.
The flood-affected districts are Toili and West Toili. Ten villages in Toili and six in West Toili were inundated.
The floodwater, which reached a height of up to 1 meter, was caused by incessant rain in the past few days.
Members of a local search and rescue team with the assistance of military and police personnel are searching for a villager who was swept away by floodwater.
'We hope that the victim is still alive,' Tandigala remarked.
