Mother, 2 daughters found hanging
SIVAGANGA: A woman along with her two children allegedly committed suicide by hanging due to poverty in Sivaganga district on Monday.
Oyammal, 36, was married to Tamilarasan, a CRPF personnel and they had two daughters Ponthamil Swedha, 12 and Ponthamil Priya, 9. They lived in Bose Nagar on Thondi Road in Sivaganga. The two girls were studying in the Kendriya Vidyalaya there.
Tamilarasan, who was serving in a northern state had come home two years ago but had gone missing suddenly.
After the disappearance of her husband, the woman struggled to make ends meet and had borrowed money from local money lenders and also worked in a tailoring shop in the area. Her mother had come to visit her early in the morning on Monday and as nobody answered the doorbell or cell phone she called her son. When Oyammal’s brother climbed into the house through the terrace he found her hanging along with her daughters from the roof of their house. As the girls were dressed in their school uniforms and their lunch boxes had been packed, it was suspected that they took the extreme step early in the morning.
Sivaganga town police recovered the bodies and sent it for postmortem to the government hospital. Police sources say that neighbours told them that money lenders had often visited Oyammal demanding that she repay them.
