Heavy downpour turns weather pleasant in Kanpur

KANPUR: It rained heavily on Monday and turned the weather pleasant. People also had a bad time due to waterlogging. Traffic jams also occurred at various places.
The day remained cloudy. In the evening, the rainfall began. It rained very heavily, leaving commuters. Many areas got waterlogged. This was the heaviest rainfall of August and it lasted for over two hours.The meteorological department of CSA University is yet to release the date of the rainfall.
The showers began at around 4.15 pm. People had to rush for cover to save themselves from getting drenched. The wait for rainfall to stop lasted long. The shoppers in Lajpat Nagar, Kabadi Market, Shastri Nagar, Govind Nagar and others faced problems. In Kabadi Market, Fazalganj, Saket Nagar, Y block Kidwai Nagar and several other localities, people drove vehicles in knee-deep water. Those riding scooters got stuck up as their vehicle got stranded in the water. Traffic jam were seen at several places.
When the rain stopped around 6 pm, there was a mad rush on the roads. The heavy downpour exposed the preparedness of the civic authorities. Despite the efforts by the district authorities to ensure that there is no waterlogging and the drains are cleaned, nothing was done. This time, the situation turned worse. People had to wade through water which had accumulated on roads.
