The Andhra Cricket Association would develop cricket pitches on the Andhra University Engineering College ground here, its president G. Gangaraju announced while participating in the silver jubilee celebrations of Cavaliers Cricket Club here on Sunday.
Mr. Gangaraju appreciated the club for its performance. Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G.S.N. Raju also participated. President of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association and MLA P. Vishnukumar Raju assured the club that it would be given full membership by VDCA.
Secretary of AUCE Sports Committee N. Vijay Mohan presided. Club secretary N. Srinivasa Raju explained the club’s achievements. It was formed in 1972 and was celebrating its silver jubilee this year.
Among the club’s recent achievements were being runner-up in this year’s The Hindu Trophy tournament and winner of the A division league of VDCA. It had created a sort of history by winning 23 matches on the trot between 2005 and 2008 seasons in the VDCA league. Cricket legend Kapil Dev visited the club’s coaching camps some years ago and appreciated the way they were being run. Cavaliers C.C. introduced women’s cricket in the city.
Among its players Ricky Bhui was member of the Indian under-19 team for the junior World Cup held in Dubai and Prabhu Kiran played for U-19 Indian team in 2009. More than 25 of its players played for Andhra in the Ranji and age-group tournaments. Its team also went on a tour to Singapore.
Principal of AUCE P.S. Avadhani and Registrar of AU K. Rama Mohana Rao and others participated. Ricky and Prabhu were felicitated by Mr. Gangaraju. The club presented mementoes to 29 of its players who represented Andhra in Ranji trophy and others touranaments.
