A 33-year-old constable attached to the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) attempted suicide by hanging himself at his official quarters in Koramangala on Sunday. The constable identified as Gopalakrishna was rescued by his family members and neighbours. He was rushed to hospital where he is recuperating. He had attempted suicide three years ago. According to the police, Gopalakrishna and his wife used to have frequent fights. On Sunday too, the couple fought, following which Gopalakrishna locked himself inside a room and tried to commit suicide.

The police said that Gopalakrishna got married eight years ago and had two daughters.

There were rumours that he attempted suicide after he was “punished” on the pretext of a departmental enquiry for participating in the protest extending support to P. Ravindranath, who was ADGP at the time. However, a senior police officer said the suicide attempt had nothing to do with that issue. The official said that Gopalkrishna was irregular to work, following which the enquiry was initiated against him.
