IIM Raipur recently held a six day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) as part of the second phase of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The FDP began on August 04th and was attended by more than 40 faculty members from Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Tripura.

The FDP dealt with five major issues including Accreditation and Washington Accord, How to achieve Academic Excellence, Academia-Industry Partnership, Teaching Pedagogy, and Research and Publications. The learning from this programme will be implemented by the participants back at their respective institutions.

The theme for the first day of the programme was 'Understanding Institutional Needs and Self'. IIM Raipur's Director B.S. Sahay conducted an exclusive session on 'Achieving Academic Excellence' and pointed out Indian technical institutes that aspired to become global, needed to hire more faculty from top Indian and foreign universities. Following this session, the participants worked on their respective projects along with their faculty coordinators.

'Learning Teaching Methodology' was the focus for the second day's sessions under which participants attended talks on participant centered learning, improving teaching learning process, evaluation and assessment techniques, and using feedback for self development.

On the third day the focus was on 'Student Engagement' and the ways and means to improve student participation. Excellence in research was the theme for the fourth day under which the trainers stressed upon information literacy, independent learning and social responsibility.

On fifth day 'People Management' was discussed. Some of the important issues discussed on the day include managing academic resources, ideal curriculum, roles and responsibilities of non-teaching staff, institutes' infrastructure, financial resources and other services and facilities.

The last day of FDP was reserved for feedback and revision of the learning that took place during the previous five days. "The FDP aimed to identify the gaps in the present system, processes and infrastructure; and to develop benchmarks for the delivery of education and resources management," said B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Raipur in a press statement.

More FDP programmes have been planned as part of the phase 2 of TEQUIP programme.
