New Jakkrit suspect held

Another suspect in the murder of national sports shooter Jakkrit Panichpatikum has been arrested in Songkhla province, police said yesterday.

Thawatchai: Accused of driving gunman

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Ake Angsananont said 33-year-old Thawatchai Phetchot confessed he rode the motorcycle for the gunman who shot dead Mr Jakkrit while driving his black Porsche in Min Buri district on Oct 19 last year.

Mr Thawatchai said Mr Santi Thongsame, arrested earlier, was paid 600,000 baht for the murder by an unknown woman, Pol Gen Ake said, adding the other accomplices received 200,000 baht.

After the killing, Mr Thawatchai fled to Chachoengsao province and later went into hiding in Songkhla's Chana district, he said.

In November, Mr Santi turned himself in to police, as he was wanted on an arrest warrant on charges of arranging Mr Jakkrit's murder. He surrendered several days after police apprehended Jirasak Klinkhlai, 33, the alleged gunman.

Jakkrit's mother-in-law, Surang Duangjinda, 70, later confessed to ordering his murder to protect her daughter, Nitiwadee Pucharoenyos, who she said was abused by her husband during their six year marriage. Ms Surang said her daughter was not involved in the murder.
