From the Tam-Brahms of Mylapore to NRI mappilais, from Chennaiites’ eternal love affair with the thayir saadam to Captain Vijaykanth’s antiques, nothing escaped the radar of five funny guys who took stage to celebrate the spirit of Chennai. The comedy show by Evam Standup Tamasha was held on Saturday at the Music Academy as part of The Times of India’s Namma Chennai Chance-ey illa campaign.

Over 1,500 people turned up to watch the grand show, making it one of the biggest stand-up comedy shows the city has ever witnessed. While Bhargav Ramakrishnan made the audience chant “Namma Chennai chance-ey Illa”, actor Karthik Kumar’s question, “But where is East Mambalam da,” had the audience in splits. Arvind SA won hearts with his jests on the traffic police (that caught him jumping the signal at 2.30 am). While Aswin Rao gave the audience their moment of hilarity while narrating his parents’ trip to the US, Bangalore boy Naveen Richard’s short and sweet act was entertaining too. But seriously, where is East Mambalam da?
