PAT-Police clashes spread across Punjab

A number of police-PAT workers clashes erupted when the law enforcers tried to stop the workers from participating in the anti-government protest in Lahore, causing death of a cop and two workers and arrest of hundreds of activists on Saturday.
Elite Police Force official Muhammad Fayyaz was killed and more than 25 policemen and 40 PAT activists were injured in bloody clash at Motorway Bhera Interchange on Saturday. The infuriated PAT workers burnt 8 police vans while the police burst the tyres of PAT caravan vehicles. PAT activist Arslan also sustained bullet injury.
All injured were shifted to DHQ hospital Sargodha where 8 policemen and one PAT worker’s condition was stated to be critical. Bhera Motorway Interchange became battlefield. During the clash, traffic of every kind remained suspended. Meanwhile, heavy contingent of police from Sargodha was sent to Bhera and they controlled the situation and shifted the injured to hospital.
Bahawalpur police carried out raids on the houses of PAT workers while entrance and exit ways were closed down by putting containers on the road due to which people faced severe difficulties.
The district sealed the entrance and exit ways to the city by putting the containers on Sutluj River Bridge while on every check post heavy police squad have been deployed. The police were strictly checking every citizen. Meanwhile, 11 workers were arrested and shifted to Central Jail on one month’s detention.
Meantime, filling stations in the city stopped the supply of petrol and diesel to the citizens due to which people are facing severe difficulties and have become captive to their homes.
In Rahim Yar Khan, 22 PAT officeholders and workers were arrested and shifted to unknown places by the police even then, a large number of workers have successfully reached Lahore to participate in the mourning ceremony at Minhajul Quran Secretariat.
Sumaira Bibi of Baghdad Colony wife of Sajid Farooq, told the police on phone that her husband was a political worker of Pakistan Awami Tehreek and leading a caravan to Lahore to participate in the protest on which the police arrested Sajid Farooq and other participants. Two school teachers and a family of 6 were arrested.
On Friday night, Liaqatpur police arrested a family of Masoodwala including a 10 year old kid named Yasir while others named Qazi Gul Muhammad, Qazi Muhammad Ameen, Qazi Muhammad Arif, Qazi Kashif and Qazi Ayaz. The Education Department has suspended the schoolteachers while the admin has imposed Section 144 throughout the district.
PAT office-bearers had announced to do the press conference but police started raids on their houses and surrounded the homes of PTI’s officials due to which they were not able to hold press conference. Further Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s District President announced to lead a protest rally in regard of Azaadi March for which large number of people gathered at a camp established at Shahi Road. A police squad arrived on spot and demanded to show the permission letter to take out the rally. The permission letter shown to the police was incomplete on which the police stopped the rally.
In this way, at least 60 PAT activists and 16 police men sustained injuries during a clash near Sadhoki Gujranwala. In the wee hours, hundreds of activists wielding batons tried to remove impediments from the road. When the police attempted to stop them, the protesters attacked the police party, resulting 60 workers of PAT and about 16 police men including a DSP got injuries. During the clash, the police detained 17 workers while the PAT supporters hijacked a police van along with seven cops. After receiving information about the incident, authorities reached the spot and as a result of dialogues with the protesters, both the parties released the detainees in their occupation.
There was a rumour at the spot that a PAT lady worker was killed due to police torture but the government sources including police and hospital personal showed their nescience about the death. Commissioner Gujranwala Division Shamial Ahmed Khawaja along with DCO Azmat Mehmood made a visit to DHQ Hospital and inquired after the health of policemen.
In Sialkot, police arrested traffic police constable Abdul Razzaq for inciting local people to participate in PAT’s anti-government protest in Lahore and facilitating them in this regard. The accused was stated to be an activist of PAT. The police raided an outhouse of PAT activist Mudassar and recovered 60 special uniforms to be distributed amongst the PAT workers, enabling them to participate in PAT’s Lahore protest while wearing the uniforms. The police impounded 10 vans.
The police have blocked the traffic between Sialkot and Narowal district while placing containers on River Chenab Bridge near Head Marala-Sialkot and at the bridge over Marala-Ravi-Link Canal near Sahowala-Sambrial. The police suspended traffic between Sialkot and Gujranwala districts by placing containers on main Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road on bridge of Bambaanwala-Ravi-Baidian at Daska and  near Othiyaan police check post. Motra police registered a case against accused Mudasar on the report of the raiding police Sub Inspector Muhammad Zubair.
In Dera Ghazi Khan and Layyah, the police arrested over 28 office-bearers and workers of PAT and shifted them to the Central Jail while further arrests are also expected however the key figures slipped and the police failed in arresting them. The arrested workers include Tariq, Jalal, Abdul Ghafoor, Abdul Kareem, Hammad Kareem, Ameer Bakhash, Qari Mujahid Haqnawaz, Shoukat Hussain, Kaleem, Ghulam Haider, M Ajmal, M Sajjad, Munnawar, Abbas Habibullah, M Shoaib, M Amen, Khalil Ahmed, and M Sajid.
Sheikhupura police in crackdowns arrested 9 activists of PAT in different parts of the district. They were identified as Naeem, Safdar, Sufi Ramzan, Hashim Ali and Habibullah.
A police-PAT workers clash in Chiniot left two constables injured, police vehicles torched. Police raided houses of PAT workers and rounded up about 100 workers. DPO Chiniot Abdul Qadir Qamar has confirmed detention of 41 PAT workers.
Meanwhile, the police tipped off that a number of PAT workers were gathering at Yaray Ki village in Chenabnigar police station area. A police party raided the house but the PAT workers held the police party hostage including SHO Chenabnigar and four constables. Two of the constables were also injured in scuffle with workers who also set on fire a police vehicle.
Local MPA Imtiaz Lali intervened on the request of District police; negotiated with infuriated workers and managed to get back hostage police cops and vehicle.  Police have not arrested any one of the assailants, but booked them for injuring police cops and setting the police vehicle ablaze.

Govt gets report on police station attack

SARGODHA (STAFF REPORTER): The initial report about setting on fire the Quaidabad police station in Khushab by the protesters Friday night has been sent to Punjab government.
It was said in the report that PAT workers had patrol bottles and some of them were armed with weapons during the assault on the police station. They allegedly looted official arms and broke the police lock-up and freed three accused involved in heinous crimes. It said that PAT activists wanted to find their way to Lahore via Khushab and Sargodha to attend Yaum-e-Shuhada. It was decided to file case under ATA Act against the assailants.

44 charged with attacking police
TOBA TEK SINGH (STAFF REPORTER): The Gojra City Police registered a case against 44 Pakistan PAT activists under Anti-Terrorism Act for allegedly attacking a police party and injuring six cops including SHO Aftab Ahmad Siddiqui.
According to the FIR, when personnel of the City Police reached the house of PAT leader Falak Sher Jatt in Chak 366/JB on Friday to arrest him, the PAT workers attacked police party as a result SHO and five other constables sustained serious injured. It is to be noted that after the incident when heavy police contingents reached the village all of the PAT activists fled away and the police recovered 200 kits from the house of Falak Sher which the activists had to use to save themselves from tear gas in case of any riot. Each kit contains a helmet, eye glasses, masks, gloves and tissue papers.
Meanwhile, MNA Khalid Warraich, MPA Qadir Awan and Gojra AC Tanveer Murtaza visited Gojra THQ Hospital and inquired after the injured policemen.
