Does Bichhu gang exist?

VADODARA: Does the notorious Bichhu gang that has been causing scare among the business community in the old city areas really exist? Cops investigating the cases of extortion and assaults in the city said that there is no steady gang called 'Bichhu Gang'. Police insist that few notorious elements got together and tried to create scare among people in the name of Bichhu Gang.Many believe that the gang is run by history-sheeters like Aslam Bodiyo, Munna Tadbuch, Tausif and others.
However, crime branch officials say that the gang doesn't have any permanent members. "There are many notorious elements in the city that extort money from traders by scaring them. The word about Bichhu Gang began doing rounds some years ago after Aslam and his accomplices assaulted some traders and demanded extortion. But Aslam doesn't work permanently with any person," said a crime branch official.
"Aslam and another history-sheeter Ajju Kaniya don't get along. Aslam also doesn't get along with Munna Tadbuch. Tausif, who works with some local miscreants, is a new name for us. For a gang to operate there has to be a permanent head and some members who meet regularly. Some local miscreants try to spread scare by using the name of Bichhu Gang," the official added.
Recently, one of the accused in kidnapping and assault case of a trader identified himself as Aslam Bodiyo. Police earlier thought that Aslam Bodiyo was involved but Aslam told them that he wasn't involved in the incident. Police said that someone tried to use Aslam's name to spread scare. "We are swift to investigate cases of extortion and arrest the culprits. There are some miscreants, who try to scare people in the name of Bichhu Gang that doesn't exist formally," said DCP (crime), H R Muliyana.
