Sliema went two points adrift of Neptunes, although with a game more, as they went past the bottom team, a far cry from their last encounter, when the Blues were surprisingly held to a draw. Sliema didn’t have the best of openings, when they went two goals behind, but they recuperated in the second session, though losing easy chances, with Exiles pulling back. It was only in the last quarter that Sliema could make sure of the result, when they stretched their advantage.

Exiles cooly took a double advantage at the start, with Sliema making heavy weather, as they reduced their deficit, but Exiles held out till the end of the period. In the next session the Blues dominated the first part, as they poured in four goals in succession, but they didn’t keep on, wasting good occasions, and exiles bounced back, with a brace of Luka Sekulis strikes, taking them to within a goal at the interval, with Sliema leading 5-4.

After the break it was still a tight game, with the Blues opening their lead further once more, but more missed chances prevented them from increasing their lead, and Peter Borg scored his second goal for Exiles, who were 5-7 behind, when the last quarter began. Sliema then made sure, as they repeated the dose of the second period, flashing in four more goals. There was still time for both sides to enhance their scoreline, as they shared six more goals, with Sliema content with the resulting score.
