District Education Officer (DEO) D. Devanand Reddy on Friday ordered an enquiry into the alleged engagement of students in the construction work at Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) at Konakanchi village in Penuganchiprolu mandal in Krishna district.

ZPHS headmistress Vijaya Kumari allegedly asked some students of ninth and tenth standards to join repair works at the school. Because of continuous work, students suffered boils in their hands. Following the allegations, the DEO directed Nandigama Deputy DEO George Raju to conduct an enquiry and submit a report.

“As per the preliminary enquiry, the headmistress allotted the work for five students, who suffered boils. The enquiry officer will find out if the work was allotted for a contractor or not. We will also elicit information at to why students were asked to work,” Mr. Reddy said.

Terminated

In a separate incident, the district administration suspended a contract resource teacher, N. Anjali Devi, working at Kasturiba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayam at A. Kondur for allegedly detaining four Class X students in a toilet. The students were reportedly punished for arriving late at school.

Rajiv Vidya Mission Project Officer D. Pushpa Mani said Ms. Anjali Devi was terminated after an enquiry and the orders were served on Friday.

“Officials concerned will file a criminal case against the dismissed teacher for locking up students in the toilet. The condition of the students is stable,” said the PO. Meanwhile, activists of various students unions, child rights organisations and NGOs expressed concern over the inhuman acts of teachers in the schools in Krishna district. They demanded stern action against the two teachers for violating child rights.
