Her film Abhinetri has been cleared by the court
Kalpana rescues Pooja Gandhi
Actress Pooja Gandhi has cross ed the legal hurdle that threat ened to derail her first film as producer; Abhinetri. A court in Bangalore ruled in favour of the actress after writer Bhagya Krishnamurthy had alleged that the film was plagiarised from her novel Abhinetria Antaranga published more than a decade ago. The case turned Pooja's way after the filmmakers said the film was based on the life story of late actress Kalpana and not on the book.
When the film was launched, despite the marked similarity of the film's character to Kalpana, Pooja had denied that it was based on the late actress who died under mysterious circumstances decades ago.
Trying to avoid any controversy that it would be based on the tragic life of a popular actress, the real inspiration was denied. But when it came to the court case, it was Kalpa na who came to the rescue of Pooja Gandhi.
The matter went up to the high court which directed the lower court judge to watch the movie to decide if it was based on the book. The court found that the alleged similarities between the book and the film did not exist. Pooja is now free to release the film.
