Sanjay should learn from Sooraj
Salman Khan reveals that he confronted the temperamental director over his loud outbursts on the sets.

To celebrate two decades of their much-loved family drama, Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, Salman Khan and director Sooraj Barjatya have shot a special video in Karjat, where the two are currently filming their fourth film together, Prem Ratan Dhan Payyo.

In the video the duo fondly recall the making of one of Hindi cinema’s highest grossing films. Dressed in a brown shirt and white trousers, Salman acknowledges that it’s Sooraj’s calm demeanour which sets him apart from most directors today.

“What I love about Sooraj is that he sees everything in soft-focus and finds beauty around him. He is a very nonjudgemental person and lets people be,” Salman asserts.

His rave continues with the actor stating, “I’ve always maintained that although we have had Guru Dutt and Raj Kapoor, Sooraj is the best director in Hindi cinema.”

Salman goes on to hint that there’s a director who “yells a lot,” and as Sooraj quietly looks on, even names him.

“One day, I saw Sanjay Leela Bhansali yelling, apparently he does that quite a lot,” says the actor, sounding disturbed and angry. “I had to tell him and I did - 'Sanjay, you must hang around with Sooraj Barjatya. And just see how he directs'.”

An apologetic Bhansali is then reported to have told Salman, “Yes, I’ve been losing it (his temper) quite a lot these days,” to which Salman retorted, “The first thing you do is make your actors feel beautiful and loved.

Even a Taj Mahal can be made with love.” Bhansali and Salman have worked in three ilms, Khamoshi The Musical, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Sawaariya.

It is also revealed in the video that Salman wanted to play the part which was eventually essayed by Saif Ali Khan in Barjatya's Hum Saath Saath Hain. “He wanted to play the younger brother Vinod but I had to convince him that as the older Prem, he would bring more maturity on screen,” says Barjatya.
