Making Mumbai an international city, a garden on the Mahalaxmi Race Course, a coastal road from Marine Drive to Kandivli and a memorial for late party chief Bal Thackeray. These are among some of the points in the vision document put forward by the Shiv Sena for the coming assembly polls.
While unveiling the document on Thursday, Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, who spoke to his district chiefs via video conferencing, said the "opinions of other Mahayuti constituents would be sought before incorporating these in the manifesto".
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), headed by Uddhav's estranged cousin Raj Thackeray, is also scheduled to unveil its long-pending blueprint for the state's development soon.
The vision document, titled "Chala utha Maharashtra ghadwuya" (come, let's create Maharashtra), envisages expanding the BMC's virtual classroom scheme to the entire state, expanding Mumbai's Metro railway network, developing the city's neglected eastern waterfront, having water transport projects on eastern and western coasts and completing the Damanganga-Pinjal river-linking project. It also promises completing the long-pending Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) project with a railway to make it into a multi-modal system, the Navi Mumbai airport and power projects based on non-conventional energy like solid waste and solar power.
The Sena also wants the SRA scheme to be extended to the state, affordable housing for all, network of trauma care centres on highways and a walk-through museum to familiarise people with the life and times of warrior king Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. At the same time, it intends to attract investment through industrial zones.
Simplification of labour laws, completion of pending last-mile irrigation projects, a separate budget for agriculture, a network of soil-testing labs for farmers and women's security are some other features of the vision document.
