PUNE: The traffic branch of the Pune police, taking cognizance of the pothole-ridden 'VIP route' from Lohegaon airport to Rajbhavan, have written to the municipal commissioner urging him to undertake repair work immediately.
Traffic branch officials pointed out that at least one VIP visits the city every day. Due to the numerous potholes, traffic movement is interrupted when VIPs go from the airport to the Rajbhavan and on their return journey.
As the VIP route is full of potholes, traffic movement on the route is getting badly affected, when VIP's go from the airport to Rajbhavan and when they return to the airport for their onward flight.

The VIP route goes via Marut rest house, Khese park, Kalwad quarry, Petrol Satha chowk, Garrison Engineering chowk, Jail Road chowky, Yerawada post office, Golf Club chowk, Alandi road junction, Chandrama hotel chowk, Holkar bridge, Methodist Church chowk, Khadki police station, Central school, Range Hill corner chowk and University flyover to Rajbhavan.
The traffic branch said the road from Petrol Satha chowk to Range Hills chowk is filled with potholes formed due to the heavy rains. "In view of the security of VIPs, the civic departments should conduct an inspection so that the potholes can be repaired immediately," the letter stated. The traffic branch has also urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to remove the debris on the road.
Omprakash Bakoria, PMC's additional commissioner, however, said that PMC has not received any letter so far from the traffic branch. He added that civic engineers have already been deployed to repair potholes on all roads. All roads are equally important to us'', he said
