Hatem Ben Arfa has been stripped of his number 10 shirt at Newcastle.
The French star has been given the ultimate snub by boss Alan Pardew who has shunted him to number 26, the latest indication the manager wants him out.
New signing Siem De Jong has inherited Ben Arfa's shirt, with his fellow summer arrivals Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Daryl Janmaat in 14, 20 and 22 respectively.
Ben Arfa won’t figure in the first team squad until September at the earliest and is available for sale, so may be surprised he has a squad number at all.
He has been banished to training with Peter Beardsley’s development squad.
Newcastle made an approach to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette in the last few days but their hopes of a quick deal receded on Thursday.
They can’t afford to use Ben Arfa as a make-weight for Lacazette because of his wages.
The Lyon star is top of Newcastle’s target list after their successful summer dealing which has already collected nine new signings.
But Lacazette said: “Last winter there were rumours, rumours of a possible departure, and you can hear anything and everything, it has not been easy.
“Now I am used to it, and I am now in Lyon and concentrating on the new season.”
His team-mate Clement Grenier, also a Toon target, admits he enjoys being in demand.
He said: “It is true that with myself, Max (Gonalons) and Clement (Grenier), we have people looking at us - but it’s a good pressure.”
Newcastle launched their new home strip for pre-order today.
The club are flogging the shirt through a subsidiary of owner Mike Ashley 's Sports Direct empire - meaning Newcastle won't benefit from merchandising revenue.
A club email promoting the Puma strip says the contract of purchase is with Ashley's booming sportswear firm, not Newcastle United.
Fans have raised concerns about the club being used by Ashley to drum up business for Sports Direct, with little benefit coming the other way.
Ashley also has dozens of adverts for his firm around the club's St James' Park stadium.
The strip, with a black v-shaped band on the front pointing to the controversial Wonga payday loan logo, has had a mixed reaction.
The outfield shirts are said to make the players look like they are wearing corsets, while the keeper jersey has been described as resembling a QR code.
Rolando Aarons is the big shirt number bingo winner. He has been promoted to the first team pool and given no 16, reflecting his good pre season showing.
