RANCHI: Maoist rebel Pitambar Mahato alias Preetam Mahato alias Lambu (36) surrendered on Wednesday. Resident of Kombo Jaradih Tola village under Angara police station of Ranchi district, Mahato, an associate of area commander Ram Mohan Munda had been recruiting people since 2012.
Rural SP S K Jha said, "Mahato used to arrange food and lodging for Maoists.
He had also been recruiting people for the outfit. He was one of the most trusted cadres of area commander Munda and used to collect levy for him."
Jha attributed the surrender of Mahato to officer in charge of Rahe police station Jitendra Kumar Raman, DSP Ram Sarek RAi and CRPF battalion 133.
