In May, the Lakes Mail published a story highlighting residents' calls for a path.
Council investigations subsequently found that a track had once existed on the western side of the street, but had been eroded and overgrown.
A council spokesperson said work would now be undertaken to determine the most appropriate route.
"Once the road reserve boundary can be established, work associated with the formation of a gravel path will be scheduled into council's routine maintenance program for completion within the next four to six weeks following the survey," they said.
Councillor Rosmairi Dawson pushed for the issue to be investigated.
She is pleased the path will be upgraded to improve the safety for pedestrians accessing Fishery Point Road.
"There are many places in this city, particularly in the Morisset district, that will never have a footpath," Cr Dawson said.
"My main aim is to see paths go in to the most important, well-used areas of our district and I am taking note as to where those areas of need are."
