BANGALORE: The time was 5.45am. Ushering in the new day, a mother and her daughter were busy drawing rangoli outside their house till an explosion jolted the tranquil morning. Such was the impact of the cylinder blast that Eeramma Siddappa, 45, and her elder daughter, Prema Siddappa, were hurled to the compound wall opposite their house.
Four persons sustained injuries when the gas cylinder kept inside a windowless room exploded in the wee hours of Wednesday.
While the ceiling of the room collapsed, doors and window panes of adjacent houses came shattering down.
Prema sustained cut injuries on her right shoulder. Her mother Eeramma was treated for head injuries.
"House occupants Bhupinder Singh and Gourav Kumar were shifted to hospital with bruises and fractures. They'll be discharged in a day or two," Banaswadi police said. Bhupinder and Gourav work at a leather bag shop in Kammanahalli Circle.
Recounting the incident, an injured Prema said: "I was standing next to my mother when we heard a loud noise. We were thrown against the compound wall of the opposite house." Police said the wall was 10 feet away.
One fire tender was rushed to the spot. A ten-member rescue team pulled out Gourav Kumar from the debris. "Bhupinder managed to escape but Gourav was caught in the debris," said rescue team officials.
