Durai Dayanidhi withdraws plea seeking relaxation
MADURAI: The petition filed by former Union minister M K Alagiri's son M K Durai Dayanidhi, an accused in the multi-crore granite scam, seeking relaxation on the condition imposed by the court with regard to anticipatory bail, was dismissed as withdrawn by the Madras high court Madurai bench on Wednesday.
When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, the petitioner's side told the court that it would withdraw the petition.
Accepting it, the court ordered dismissal of the petition as withdrawn.
The high court bench in April last year had directed Dayanidhi to produce his passport as and when required by the judicial magistrate court and also inform it about his foreign trips 10 days in advance.
When the matter had come up before justice K Kalyanasundaram on July 24, the petitioner's side expressed the difficulty being faced by the petitioner.
Following it, the judge directed the police to give reply to the petition and adjourned the matter.
It may be recalled that cases were registered against him for alleged offences under Mines and Minerals Act and Explosive Substances Act in connection with the multi-crore illegal granite quarrying at Melur near Madurai.
Later, he was granted anticipatory bail by the high court bench on December 10, 2012. At that time the court had ordered for impounding his passport and directed him to appear before police whenever required. Thereafter, he filed the petition seeking return of passport. Accordingly, the court ordered the condition.
