Members of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) organised a protest meeting near the collectorate here on Tuesday seeking benefits for labourers in all fields.

As many as 60 members, who attended the meeting, said that vacancies in the Labour Department should be filled at the earliest.

A set of demands to the State government urging them to consider better benefits for the labourers across different fields and asking them to fix the minimum monthly salary at Rs.15,000 was also made.

“With regard to labourers working in the Transport Department, talks should be held soon and their salary finalised so that they would get better benefits,” the members stated.

They also urged the State government to ensure that the Central government funds for welfare assistance of workers in cotton mills should be disbursed to them at the earliest.
