Are motion posters the new teasers?
Filmmakers have taken another creative jump in terms of marketing their films. With a number of them releasing motion posters instead of going ahead with a teaser, we look at some of the interesting moving posters that are a hit with film buffs. Take a look…
Film: PK The poster managed to get a lot of attention, courtesy Aamir Khan’s nearly nude pic on it.
The moving poster has Aamir’s voiceover asking the viewer what are they staring at and inquiring if they recognise him, as PK. Aamir’s look is revealed after a sandstorm kind of feel given to the motion poster.
Film: Tamanchey As rowdy and loud as its lead stars Richa Chadda and Nikhil Dwivedi’s characters in the film, the poster too is pretty colourful desi style. The poster has the two actors shooting gunshots in the air, while there are disco hearts blinking in the background.
Film: Bangistan The poster of this film starring Pulkit Samrat and Riteish Deshmukh, looks straight out of a comic book. It features the two pressing a button attached to explosives tied to them. With a boom sound revealing the name of the film, it does make for an interesting watch. Will this film create a bang at the BO is something that only time will tell.
Film: Singham Returns As entertaining as his films, director Rohit Shetty has managed to get his viewers’ attention with the moving poster. In the classy action-packed poster, actor Ajay Devgn’s introduction makes for a great first look for the film. Rohit released two motion posters online and received a good response for it.
Film: Happy Journey Filmmaker Sachin Kundalkar of Aiyya fame released a motion postcard of his upcoming Marathi film Happy Journey. The postcard depicted a picture of a van and the VFXs included the sound of the van starting. For this simple yet effective presentation, Sachin said, “The idea was to release a moving poster and since our film is about a journey, this short and sweet vision came to our mind. I liked the way it generated a lot of curiosity among fans.”

Film: Holiday The makers of Holiday, chose to create a buzz around Akshay’s look in the film. Thus the motion poster began with a visual introduction of Akshay Kumar’s character’s name, followed by flashing the date when the first look would be revealed. The dark poster with a dash of red colour played against the backdrop of intense music did create a buzz among its viewers.
Film: Queen This digital motion poster of the film, generated quite a buzz among movie goers who were curious to know what role Kangana was essaying in the film. The poster featured Kangana in a Bollywood dance pose while the evergreen track Hungama ho gaya played in the background. A psychedelic combination of colours, trippy music and some moving images in the digital poster end with Kangana’s voiceover saying Jai Mata Di. A fun poster if we may call it so.
