Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial Trust, headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is making attempts to ensure that a branch of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is opened here. It has approached Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for approval.

After Vishnuvardhan’s death in December 2009, a trust headed by the Chief Minister was formed to oversee construction of a memorial in the name of the thespian. Disclosing the trust’s plan of opening a Bangalore chapter of the FTII in association with the Karnataka government, actor Bharathi, wife of Vishnuvardhan, said her husband had a dream of creating “something concrete for the Kannada film industry” and bringing the FTII to Bangalore was the first move in realising his dream.

Vibha Charitable Trust is holding a weekend workshop on short-film production, in association with Christ University Bangalore, to mark 50 years of Ms. Bharathi’s association with cinema. It will be inaugurated by director T.S. Nagabharana on August 14 on the college campus.
